Restoring the River

Mill Bend Preserve includes 65 acres in the Gualala River estuary. The estuary was home to several lumber mills, and operations throughout the watershed have had a significant impact to the ecosystem in the Gualala River.

With funding from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, environmental consulting firm Prunuske Chatham, Inc. (PCI) was hired to evaluate existing habitat conditions in the estuary and outline opportunities for improving habitat conditions. The Gualala River Estuary Habitat Enhancement Plan is supported by multiple state and federal agencies, as well as community organizations committed to the health of the watershed.
